Hortense, who uses she/they pronouns, is a film director, writer, and producer from Geneva, Switzerland. After 10+ years of studies in the USA (New York & LA) they now live and work in Vancouver, Canada.
Their interests span across family entertainment, genre films such as musicals, Sci-Fi, horror, and fantasy, as well as documentary production. After earning a BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College in 2016, Hortense pursued further education at USC's School of Cinematic Arts, where they obtained an MFA in Film & Television Production in 2019. In the Fall of 2020, Hortense returned to USC School of Cinematic Arts to share their expertise by teaching a Documentary Production class. Currently residing in Vancouver, Canada, they are actively engaged in the film industry, working on various projects and developing their own. Since February of 2024, they have been working as the Office Manager at Means Of Production, a service production company based in Vancouver and covering all of Canada.
Hortense is particularly drawn to narratives that center around media for social change, LGBTQIA2S+ & women's rights, and coming-of-age stories. In 2019, they directed "Miranda’s Marionettes," a musical short film exploring themes of sisterhood and mentorship as their thesis at USC School of Cinematic Arts. The film made its debut at the 2020 LA Shorts International Film Festival.
An explorer at heart, Hortense's passion for people and their stories has driven them to volunteer with NGOs globally. They firmly believe that every dreamer possesses the tools to challenge the status quo. The open-mindedness and intuition of artists have become priceless commodities in a world that desperately needs new leaders of a different kind.
